Eyeball Stoup. Yum.

With the days certainly chilling down, it has made me wanting to cook some stoups.  You know, the kind of soups that still have some liquid, but are quite chunky.  And while I have not done that yet, I did make the kids eyeball stoup.  Here is what you will need:

Water beads
Wiggly eyes
Water
Scoopers

Make the water beads the way you usually do.  I do not buy mine already hydrated, since it is cheaper to just hydrate them myself.  My friend and I also discovered that the water beads at the Dollar Tree become HUGE when hydrated.  I mean, we are talking the size of bouncy balls.  I then added some wiggly eyes, and some ping pong sized eyeballs and put it in the container for the boys to explore.  Of course they wanted scoops to play with, and they had a blast trying to get just eyeballs, or just blue water beads.

I also turned the experience into a science experiment for Pierce.  I had him pick out a food color that he thought would look awesome as a water bead; and he picked orange.  Then we allowed the water beads to soak in the water...and wouldn't you know they were orange!  Since they are polymers, the clear beads turn the color of whatever liquid is in the container.  Once we started playing with it, we added just regular water to the container, and they turned back to clear.  He thought that was the coolest thing ever.  I cannot wait to get my hands on some cheap carnations and dye them colors too!

Hopefully you enjoy rainbow stoup as well.  I have heard that you can make an edible type of "water bead" by using tapioca, but we have yet to experiment with that.  Thankfully my guys are a bit beyond that stage, but I still have to supervise.  They are certainly not past the stage of throwing them across the living room to see them bounce.

Have a great day everyone!
