Humpty CAN be put back together again.

This week we are working on various nursery rhymes and putting together some great activities to do while we talk about, and recite, our favorites.  Thus far, we have built blocks, ripped paper, and drawn our fears.

Humpty Dumpty
This is one of our absolute favorite nursery rhymes, and is what I started the week off with.  Keep in mind, I am not doing a structured school like setting anymore.  I am doing the more laid back, relaxed approach.

Block Building:  We have had our blocks out every week for various themes.  As time goes on, I am finding that unless I have a purpose for the blocks, the boys no longer grab them for free play.  This time, they LOVED what was created.  I sat down in the living room with the blocks and some wooden eggs next to them.  I then built a wall, finishing with the egg on top.

As I recited their beloved rhyme, I knocked down the wall and sent all the blocks and the egg flying.  Pierce jumped in and started building his own wall as well:

Then Pierce had a blast figuring out how to build a tall wall and sending his own Humpty Dumpty flying.

Eventually Carter joined us, but I had already put the camera away.

Later that afternoon, we made our own eggs out of paper, and then had the boys rip the eggs into 4 pieces.  I was picturing 4 even pieces, but Pierce loved the abstract idea of having different sized tears. I had seen somewhere on Pinterest using tape to put the egg back together, but I decided to use band aids.  They are cheap enough, and what younger child does not like to play with band aids?  Here were our finished products:

Both boys were very happy to see that they were able to do what all the kings horses and all the kings men could not do.

Little Miss Muffet

This is another favorite in the house.  A big reason why is that this momma is PETRIFIED of spiders.  We are talking scream like a little girl petrified.  And since the boys love to make fun of mommy for her fears, I decided to have them draw what they were afraid of.

First, I explained why Miss Muffet ran away.  Pierce was the first to say, "just like you mommy."  So I asked Mr. Smarty pants what he was afraid of.  His answers?  Lions.  However, once he started trying to draw a lion, he gave up and said he was afraid of lines.  Keep in mind, we did this at 6 pm at night after a full day with no naps, so I honestly did not expect much.  Carter decided he needed to draw a lady bug, with lots of polka dots.  And the hubby decided to draw a rather detailed snake for me - my other fear.

The rest of this week we have more nursery rhymes planned as well as a very messy party, and a trip to the science museum.  Hope everyone else has a great week too!  We will be back online in a couple of days.  :)
