Ice Skating...With Penguins?

Here in CT, the weather has been rather unpredictable.  One minute, it is below zero, the next minute it is raining.  Well, maybe that is a slight exaggeration, but you get my point.  This has left us with mud, frozen mud, snow, ice, and liquid lakes again.  This has also left a few days where the boys want to be out ice skating, but it had become not safe to be out there.  And this is where I introduce to you, our indoor ice skating with penguins.

For the last week, we have been focusing on winter, since it has seemed rather appropriate with the weather. This has also left me trying to create sensory experiences with snow substances, that also allow the boys to practice letters, shapes, or what they wanted to create.  Here is what I used for this project:

Mirrors
Shaving cream
Penguin figurines
Little People

And here is what was created:

I had originally intended on the boys using their fingers to write, but the were happy using the penguins and little people to skate.  They thought it was the coolest thing ever to see penguins skating - and it is also an introduction to the week we will be studying penguins.  :)
