I do not have little boys...

I have little men.  They are so aware of their surroundings, human emotions, and wise beyond their years.  They are more than I could have ever asked for, and bring a joy to a room that is indescribable.  I may be a bit biased, but Pierce and Carter are the best.  :)

Monday was sick day for mommy.  What that meant for the  boys, is that they could watch TV, play with whatever they wanted to, and only have to be dragged to Target and story time.  And you know what?  They hated it.  Pierce turned off the TV and said he had enough of it, after only one show.  After playing by himself for 5 minutes, Carter came up to me with a book and threw it in my lap.  They enjoyed Target though, and of course they loved story time.  I loved the nice long family nap we all took for 3 hours.  That was the best.  And then I left for work.

Tuesday was a whole new ball game.  Literally.  Pierce decided he was going to take his really small baseball bat from a climber he received when he was 1, throw a ball up in the air, and hit it.  All on his own, no prompting, no suggestions.  He was left to his own creative self.  He did it - and he hit it.  Over and over again.  The downside?  The dog kept running away with the ball.  He never once got frustrated with himself when he didn't hit it.  I would hear him tell himself, "Oops.  Oh well.  Try again.  I can do it."  Carter, in the meantime, was watching Pierce and realized he was having way too much fun with a ball and a bat, grabbed a soccer ball, and started kicking it.  I also stopped cleaning the yard, grabbed my softball bat, and started hitting some softballs into the woods for the dog.  Then Carter stole my bat.  :)

We also made some eggnog cookies yesterday, which are to die for.  Here is the recipe:

Pierce loved how easy they were to make, and Carter loved the dish water in the sink that he was able to splash around in while Pierce and I baked.  I dropped one of the egg shell halves on the floor, and of course Carter ran to it.  Instantaneously.  I picked it up, contemplated throwing it out, but attempted to rinse all of the nasty stuff off in the sink.  And it worked!  So I did that with the rest of the egg shells, and Carter was a very happy boy with a different type of sensory play all together.  Of course, I do not encourage them putting the shells in their mouths, or letting them play with anything else until they wash their hands.

We also had a big bowl of cornstarch and water to play in yesterday.  Carter played first, since Pierce was busy stringing wooden beads onto pipe cleaners, and then making a picture frame out of foam, glitter, and glue.  Once Pierce ventured over, I demonstrated how if you hit it, it becomes a solid.  But if you gently place your fingers in it, it is a liquid.  I watched his brain work for a bit, and then he started demonstrating to Carter the same thing I showed him.

I saved one last craft for the day, and I waited for Carter to take his nap before I had Pierce help me - bathtub crayons.  We ran out, so I figured I would have Pierce pick the colors, and it would be another thing he could be proud of.  As I am cutting the block of glycerin, and then melting it in the microwave, Pierce tells me, "Momma, that just went from a solid to a liquid."  Why yes, my dear, it did.  And I am soooooooo excited that you are already starting to apply what I teach you to other adventures in your day.

The last great adventure of the day?  Going to Jo Ann fabric to purchase tulle to make tutus for two very special girls.  I did not realize just how dangerous Pierce could be in a fabric store - until I walked out with 2 yards or remnants, 2 yards of polar bear/penguin/snowman fabric, and some coloring books.  Yikes!  He wanted to make a blanket, and of course the coloring books were meant as stocking stuffers, but he saw them first.

Now today is a new day, and I woke up way before the kiddos so I could get some things accomplished before they wake up, and be a hands on mom to them.  I hate feeling rushed, so the earlier I awake, the less rushed I feel.  Dishwasher is emptied, coffee is made and going through the veins as I type, banking is done, and just overall ready for the day.  Have the best day ever today - for today is a present and tomorrow is not guaranteed.
