This weekend was EXTREMELY low key. And we all loved it. For the first time in a long time, we only had 2 places to be. One was Saturday night for the gallery opening in town, and the other was me at work this morning. This left us lots of much needed family and friend time.
Originally we were supposed to have soccer at 9 am on Saturday morning. However, that was moved to Thursday night, leaving me with the chance to go running. By. Myself. In Peace and Quiet. Ah. Once I came home, we had two of our good friends come over and had a fantastic outdoor play date. Pierce SHARED his tractor, without even having to be asked (Ya!), while Carter had fun playing in the car and taking a break from all of the kids. Once the boys were worn out, and napping, Dan and I started tilling the garden. What we found out after the fact, was that there was a loose belt on the tiller, and that is why it was barely digging into the ground. And that is why it took forever to barely break the sod. On the bright side, we are one step closer to having our garden! Now to find a local horse farm that would like to give us manure...
Saturday night left us attending the grand opening of the Crescent Gallery in Thomaston. Dan's aunt and a few others worked extremely hard on this, and it was a fantastic opening. It was a tribute to first responders, and the opening even had firetrucks there. Needless to say, between the cake, cookies, firetrucks, and the abundance of family present, the boys had a blast. I also had a blast sneaking away for a mommy moment with my cousin, and enjoying some much, MUCH, needed grown up conversation.
Other than me going to work, and Dan taking the boys to meet a pig and a pug, we did not leave the house. We stayed here and let the boys do whatever they wanted to do after they woke up from their naps. Carter chose to play with trains while Pierce was still sleeping, and it is amazing how quickly and how much his vocabulary has grown. He was telling us the difference between trucks, cars, trains, and excavators, as well as trying to put together whole sentences. I think he is learning that if he is going to have a chance in this noisy house, he has to talk.
While we were playing together, I started cleaning out the play room and boxing things up to leave the house. They have way too much stuff, and with Pierce's birthday this upcoming weekend, I can only imagine how much more there is going to be. It dawned on me last night, that I think the reason why we were so stress free in Rhode Island was because there was no TV, and very few toys, forcing us to really be aware of each other and have to acknowledge each other. It forced us to slow down. I know I have mentioned the value of slowing down a few times, but I have to remember that. We had so much fun this afternoon working together to clean, listening to music, dancing, playing board games, and blowing bubbles, that I was sad the afternoon left us. Even after dinner the fun continued, and I made the boys their shaving cream bathtub paint that they wanted. As great as technology is, I am starting to really consider the other side that it creates way more stress in our lives than we need. However, it could be my complete lack of sleep in my body talking right now. :)
I know this low tech, no TV day is coming to a close. I know this is bringing me one day closer to having to go and purchase the rest of the things I need for Pierce's party, visiting family, and trying to accomplish more than I probably need to this week. My goal is to breathe. Relax, Enjoy the moment. And make every moment count. I feel I may have forgotten that, and boys if I did, I am sorry. Everyone enjoy your night, and I will try to update in a few days. Bye!
