A Day by Pierce

I have been traveling A LOT with the kids lately, and they have been such amazing children while traveling.  Nothing has been the same, no routine, no true space of our own, but yet there have been very few meltdowns (thankfully).  Yesterday, while I was laying in bed listening to the rain, I was pondering what to do with the boys today.  What adventure would we have?  Maybe the beach?  Maybe a light house?  Who knew!  Yet, then it dawned on me that maybe Pierce would like to pick a day of his own, and make his own schedule.  I knew if I asked Carter what he would want to do, I would get a yes or no answer.  So, sorry Carter.

Pierce was so excited this morning when I explained why he was able to choose our day today.  His face lit up from ear to ear, and he chose Six Flags.  We have season passes, but I honestly did not expect him to say that.  I figured he would want to do something around here, that did not mean sitting in the car for an hour.  So, after I made both boys their favorite breakfast of pancakes, and I cleaned the kitchen, we loaded into the car to start our journey.  Carter almost fell asleep on the way there, despite him not waking up until almost 9 am.  Pierce, on the other hand, could not stop asking questions and mapping out our impending day.

It was a little bit of a rough beginning once we arrived.  Per Pierce's request, I did not pack the double stroller.  I packed the single umbrella stroller since Pierce wanted to walk everything, and Carter did not appreciate being placed in the stroller.  He too wanted to walk, but I cannot trust him to walk in a huge parking lot like that.  Once we got through the gate, all meltdowns stopped, and the fun began.  First stop?  Zoom Jets.  Pierce was tall enough to sit by himself in the front seat, which gave him control of the button that makes the plane go up and down.  He had a blast with the button, despite Carter screaming about going so high in the air.  However, Carter eventually got over it, and was fine by the time we rode the Whirly Birdz.
The whole day was about the boys, and they each took turns picking out what we were going to do next.  I offered a few suggestions here and there, for times when they wanted to ride massive roller coasters, but the whole day was them.  They have been having fun traveling with me, and seeing all of our friends.  However, the smiles on their faces today was unlike any other.  I also learned I need to trust them a little more often and let them choose a lot more.  Maybe next time I will give a list of things we can choose from, but then again, why do that?  They do know that not every day is going to be like this, and I heard a lot of thank yous from both boys.

And in case there was any doubt in your mind, yes, I had a blast as well.  There is something to be said about participating in a dance party with Daffy Duck and your children.  I have not laughed that hard in awhile.  Hope everyone else had a great day as well!
