Prior to this weekend, the only plan I had was to weed our garden. However, with the amount of insane rain we have had, there are still PUDDLES in our garden. When Dan and I woke up yesterday morning, I suggested that we go and find a lighthouse to explore. One of my dear friends set up a lighthouse themed play date on Thursday, and I have been wanting to find one ever since. :) But alas, Dan did not want to drive the two hours to the lighthouse I wanted to see. So, my answer was I will take the boys, and he could have a day to himself. Then I rethought that logic; we truly do not have a lot of time together as a family. I work 4 nights a week, Dan works 5 days a week plus one night. Then I created a new plan; let's go for a hike at Wadsworth Falls so that the boys can see what the waterfall looked like after all this rain. AND we would have time as a family. That was the winning idea.
We had a blast hiking. Pierce had his Elmo backpack with his own water bottle that he filled with various treasures along the way. We brought the backpack for Carter, but we did not need to use it until we were hiking back from the falls. (yay!) And the coolest thing while hiking? There were thousands of little tree frogs all over the ground. Little, itty bitty tree frogs. We stopped a few times to try to catch them and take a look at them. I have never seen anything like that in my life; all of us thought it was really cool.
Once we arrived at Little Falls, Dan got to work right away teaching the boys how to stick race. Watching my husband and boys interact always gives me that warm fuzzy feeling; and the boys loved stick racing. I then took them over to the edge of the falls, and they each took a turn putting their hand in the water fall. Neither one of them expected the water to be so cold. Then we stuck our feet in the water and had a blast playing and learning all about pools of water and such.
Today, Dan took the boys fishing. I decided not to go for a couple of reasons. The main reason? We are leaving on an airplane in 2 days to California, and I needed to figure out how to pack all 4 of us and remain under the weight limit. I also needed some quiet so I could really concentrate. I attempted to pack last weekend, but there were a couple of little hands that kept trying to help. I am glad I unpacked their bag today, since I realized they were both missing key items...such as bathing suits. The other reason why I did not go, was simply because I feel it is important that Dan can have that uninterrupted time with the boys on his own. All 3 of them love their daddy time, and both boys have been begging to go fishing with him.
The verdict, once they came home, was that Carter became really frustrated while fishing. He wrapped himself up in the fishing line, and then decided that throwing rocks into the water was a much better idea. Pierce, on the other hand, found fishing to be awesome. He even caught his own sunfish too! However, I guess he did not want to touch it since the fins were sharp. Yet, he loved digging for the worms to catch the fish. Go figure. lol.
We ended our day by having a nice family dinner at Grandma's house, including bike riding, scooting, and playing soccer with the big cousins. Currently, both boys and Daddy are running up and down the hallway screaming and laughing. I hope everyone else enjoyed their weekend, and that all Dad's had fantastic Father's Day as well.
