This all started when I had to use a pair of tweezers to remove a thorn out of Pierce's foot. He was not very happy about the thorn or mommy removing it, but he was fascinated by my tweezers. He asked me if he could use them to try to pick up blades of grass, and I saw no harm in that. But, he was becoming frustrated over not being able to use the little tweezers to pick up individual blades of grass, so I offered some kid sized tweezers and the pompoms if he came inside. Without hesitation, he and Carter took off up the stairs.
At first I just dumped them in a big container, and let them practice with picking them up. Carter started pointing out the different colors and was ecstatic that he was figuring them out. Then it turned into a game of pick up the yellow one, blue one, etc., followed by how many can you pick up at a time.
Pierce then asked for a bowl to put them in, so he could practice picking them up and dumping them. Which also meant that Carter needed a bowl as well. Pierce was very content, and Carter decided to use them as food, and told me he was eating crocodile. I have no idea where he comes up with some of his ideas. :).
Carter then proceeded to explore the kitchen for more things to put pompoms in. He found some heart shaped ice cube trays, and they started to count them as they placed one in each spot. I could not believe how much fun they had. They were upset when I made them stop for lunch, and once we for back from blueberry picking they asked if they could play while I cooked dinner.
I have to say that I love the times when my guys use simple things to learn and grow.
