We're halfway there...

Yes, I am aware that it is only 2:18 PM.  However, when your day starts at 5:30 am, you tend to feel as if the day is almost over.  But then that reality slaps you in the face and you realize you have to be to work soon.  SO, here is my entry for today.  And we have already accomplished so much.

Well, Dan's turn to be sick.  He came home from work last night shaking and burning, so I banned him from our bedroom and from the kid's room...which meant I had both kids all night.  No more divide and conquer. lol.  Pierce came in around 1:30 because somehow he peed through an overnight diaper and all over his bed.  I changed him, but had no motivation to change his sheets, so he slept with me.  Then Carter woke up and would not go back to bed, so he ended up in the room.  And by the time the sun awoke, I was at the foot of the bed, while my little men were sleeping peacefully at the top of the bed, on my pillows, under my covers.  How did that happen?  Oh, that's right.  They both think they are in a boxing arena when they sleep.  :)

However, the morning ran smoothly.  I don't know why, but when it is just the kids and I, it always seems to run much smoother than other mornings.  For the first time ever, I made pancakes (Pierce's favorite breakfast food), WITHOUT burning them.  There was not even one speck of charred on them.  And considering I was getting sippy cups ready, helping Pierce climb onto the potty and everything else, I will take pride in this little adventure.  And just to liven things up, I had put lemon extract and vanilla extract in them.  The biggest compliment ever?  "Momma, these are better than Dada's pancakes."  Oh yeah, score mom.  And, since Carter only fed two pieces to the dog instead of a whole tray, I would have to think he liked them too.  lol.

After breakfast we did our morning ritual of art time.  Sometimes this mean paint, sometimes this means play doh.  This time meant Crayons, and I was instructed what to do with them by my 2 year old.  He came out from his playroom with a handful of crayons and said "Momma, we need to color now."  How can you say no to that?  So we practiced making our shapes, and Carter also joined in on the coloring.  Every time a color ended up on the paper, he would get this shocked look on his face and go "OOOOHHHHH."  It is awesome just watching him learn cause and effect.

From coloring we had a slight mishap with listening ears malfunctioning.  But a swift time out, and a threat to not go to Rockwell with his tricycle solved that.  And I actually had to discipline Carter for hitting this morning.  That dumbfounded me.  But, it is that age where we start, how do I say this nicely, start exploring our boundaries?  Yes, that sounds right.  Exploring the boundaries.  However, before I knew it we were out the door and on the way to Rockwell for Pierce to take on the world with his tricycle, and Carter to hitch a ride in the backpack and take a look at his big world around him.

As soon as I retrieved the tricycle from the trunk, Pierce took off on me.  Granted he stayed on the sidewalk, but that little dude can go!!!!!  And note to self, next time get Carter out of the car before the tricycle.  That would save me from pulling him out of the car and buckling him into the backpack as I chase Pierce.  This was his first time taking his tricycle to the park, and he had so much fun.  We ended up on a frog hunt, and trying to count all of the frogs we could see.  And both boys were having a conversation with each other that only brothers could understand.  On a side note, I did need to explain to Pierce why he could not take his tricycle off the skate park jumps like he saw other big boys doing with their bikes.  It's the whole two wheel vs three wheel, two years old vs six years old thing.  I think it still went up and over his head...he was watching those kids way too intently.  And he had way too much fun going to the top of the hill and flying down.  I have my hands full for next year.

Carter ended up being antsy half way through our little walk, and I honestly cannot blame him.  Watching your big brother ride his tricycle everywhere while you are stuck in a back pack cannot be fun.  Maybe it will be motivation to start walking?  Maybe?  Please?  :)  And Carter had to prove he could be like his brother on the playground - he crawled across that bridge that moves up and down in response to your movements, and then went down the slide by himself.  Oh yeah, and he climbed a rock wall.  Obviously, I was there the whole time.

Coming home I made the boys lunch - good old turkey and cheese sandwiches with cucumber slices.  And Pierce was able to ride his beloved tractor while I get everything together while Carter decided to climb all over Daddy on the deck.  I attempted to get both boys down for a nap, but failed miserably.  I mean, I walked in the room and Carter and Pierce were trying to climb the changing table together.  The changing table now needs to find a new home, and it is in the hallway.  Am I supposed to be sad to see it go?  Because I am not.  I am excited that both of my boys are finally getting to the point of not needing it.  And Pierce loves his underwear - except in public.  Still working on that one.

So as I leave this for today, Carter finally went to sleep with the help of some Orajel, and Pierce has informed Dan and I he does not need a nap today.  So he has been playing with play doh, coloring, and is now building his train set.  I need to get dinner made and head out to work...when honestly, I think I could use a nap right now too.  :)
