To all of my readers and my boys, sorry I have not posted lately. I was actually thinking about giving up on this idea, since it seems like a lot of people are no longer reading. But then I realized that would not be fair to the boys, and I need to keep up on this. Although the nights I work, are A LOT harder to keep up with. So, lets start with Sunday.
Sunday was deemed family day. After Dan and I had such a blast with the boys Saturday night, we needed something to do as a family. I know we were supposed to go to a pumpkin festival in Seymour, but the boys started to fall asleep in the car early. And Pierce had watched kids apple picking on one h\of his Baby Einstein DVD's, and really wanted to go. We decided on going to March Farms, since there is so much to do with the kids up there, and it is beautiful. I was disappointed in the selection of apples, but we all had so much fun. Pierce really liked the hike up to the trees, and then he thought the corn that was growing was really cool. Carter did his crab crawl throughout the orchard, and tried eating all of the apples off the ground. Yuck! However, the air was beautiful, only a couple of clouds in the sky, and that perfect fall breeze wrapped itself around us. Oh! And the baby animals! They went
crazy over the baby cow and the baby goats. At one point, Pierce turned around and said, "buy me a goat momma." I started laughing. Now to convince Mimi and Papa of this, and we will be golden. I would LOVE goats around here. And despite Pierce begging for a cow, we totally do not have the space for one. :(
After picking, we all played on the playground they have there. And after watching the boys play in those play houses, Dan and I have decided that will be our project next summer. We are building them one that will serve as a dual purpose. For starters: storage. We are lacking storage, and if we build some benches into it, we can use them for toys and seating. And another reason: it can change with the boys as they grow. It can be their fort, their escape from mom and dad, or their teenage hangout. The possibilities are endless, and with the benches, Dan wants to make it so they fold out into beds, and have a loft in there too. I think it would be perfect for them.
When we came home, Pierce wanted to continue playing with the train he had set up earlier in the day. And the engine is motorized, so he just laid in bed watching it go around and around, just like my father used to do. Dan and I just cleaned while the boys napped, and then he cooked this AMAZING veal stew. It was wonderful! I forgot how delicious veal can be. Then, unfortunately, I had to head to work, and break up the family time. But it did feel good to catch a break.
Monday Pierce went to school. Oh boy did he protest it, and gave me the biggest sob fest when I dropped him off. And to be honest, with the way he was crying, I almost cried too. However, he got over it 5 minutes after I dropped him off. The teacher and I had agreed ahead of time, that he needs to stay and be with his peers. I know being with me is fun, but he also has to grow a bit too. While Pierce was at school, Carter and I did storytime at the Thomaston Library, and Carter was the class clown this time. He was laughing at everything, trying to be with the librarian, and even stole Max the Bunny! I could not make that child sit still to save my life, and for a minute I thought I had Pierce with me. :) However, he was able to play with his friends, and get some wiggles out. He also had some cuddle time with mommy before we went too. Which we always love, and I feel like I don't give him enough time to just be a 1 year old. I feel like I am making him grow up way too fast, since we are always on the go with Pierce. I am assuming that is a normal mom feeling, to two kids so close in age. I hope.
Once we picked up Pierce from school, and he told me how much fun he had at school, and he did
not want to go home, we came home and had nap time. And by we, I mean the boys, so that I could clean up the basement playroom (again), and vacuum upstairs. Carter is still afraid of the vacuum, so I cannot use it when he is around. Pierce woke up first, and we went outside to play golf. And the little booger laughed every time I missed the ball. Then once Carter woke up, we went for a nice long walk at the reservoir. The boys loved seeing all of the different color leaves, and I enjoyed the burn as I went 1 mile uphill on a gravel road with the boys in the stroller. Then we came home, and I dropped them with Dan and took off.
Today, I had intentions of taking them to Litchfield story time, but both boys woke up with faucets as noses, and wicked coughs. Instead, I canceled our play date for tomorrow (I do not want to get anyone sick), and decided we were going nowhere today. I knew it was going to be a great day, when Pierce looked at me this morning and said, "no more diapers Momma. Just underwear." However, he has said this before, and I never followed through. I have always planned out our day so that we have a gazillion things to do. Well, all day he only had 2 accidents. He told me when he had to potty, and he ran and did it, even when we were playing hard. I am so proud of him! And we only had one issue with not sharing with Carter, and it was over his train. I have had enough of him getting aggressive over his trains, and placed both sets back in the respective boxes, then placed them on top of the garbage cans. As far as Pierce is concerned, they are thrown out. I am not that cruel of a mom, so I waited until he was not looking, and hid them downstairs. I just wanted to prove a point, that if you act a certain way, you lose things. I apparently made my point, since the rest of the day, he was an angel loving on Carter and sharing EVERYTHING with him. Like I said, maybe that was not the best form of punishment, but nothing else has made him stop and think.
We also played for hours downstairs with a cardboard box, his mat he uses for flips, and bubbles. And with the bubbles, the floor was washed at the same time. :) (That was not intentional at all - it was Pierce being Pierce.) Pierce made a pizza for lunch, and then all of us took a nap. When we woke up (and Pierce woke up dry in his underwear!), we made a pumpkin loaf and pilgrim pies. We made quite the mess in the kitchen, but we had a blast. I left for work, and the boys were able to play with Nana, Papa, Mimi, and Dada tonight. I would say that is one productive day, considering we did not leave the house at all.
Well, time for me to go to bed. And I am sure Dan wants his computer back since I hijacked it. Hope you guys have a great day tomorrow, and I will do my best to start posting every day again.
