I did start the day off with the intentions of a very structured day like we normally have. Pierce man do woke up begging to paint, where I had leaf rubbings planned. And at that moment as I went downstairs an grabbed a wooden race car to paint, I decided the kids will run the show today. And they totally appreciated it.
After Pierce covered his car in paint, and Carter "colored" (ate crayons) both boys decided to help mommy clean the house. It was so cute. Carter had the dust pan, and Pierce had the Swiffer, then we all went to town. :). We managed to get the kitchen swept, before the playroom became the focus. And why did the playroom become the focus? It is because I moved the desk back into the boys room, and moved around the portable shelving, and I swear the boys thought it was Christmas all over again. :). Note to self: next time kids are bored, move around some toys and give them brooms. That will occupy them for almost an hour.
In our hallway we had a couple of laundry baskets that were finally emptied (we all have a bad habit of leaving clean laundry folded in the baskets), so Pierce found a very squishy ball and made a game of basketball out of it. The really sweet part was Pierce showing Carter how to play. That was awesome, and more and more every day I really am grateful that the boys are so close in age.
I left the choice to Pierce if he wanted story time or not, and he chose to do it. So we headed up to the Oliver Wolcott Library for short tales. This was Pierce's first time doing the older story time, and he was very happy to have the opportunity to paint with water color after. And since there were not a ton of kids, I even let Carter paint with the water color. He thought it was the coolest thing ever to shake the brush and watch paint splatter everywhere. Oops! Lesson learned that he may not be quite ready for water color yet.
Carter man fell asleep on the way home, and Pierce demanded that we play on the hammock when we got home. Today the hammock was a pirate ship on rough seas. We were singing " Heave ho, heave ho, heave ho, a pirate's life for me!". We had the hammock swaying back and forth so fast, we were both laughing uncontrollably.
Once we were back to smoother seas and Pierce was laying on my leg talking abut the sky, he asked me why we could not visit Ampy in heaven. I explained that heaven was a very far trip. His response? "but the condo is a log trip and we go there.". So I had to explain in more detail that we can never visit Ampy, since if we did, we could never come back. I mean, how else do you explain to a two year old about Heaven? This is where I am at a loss - and he still talks about Ampy spontaneously everyday, and the things they did together. I know he misses him so much, as do I, but I do not know how to explain.
Then Pierce actually wanted independent time instead of a map. With Carter's party coming up on Sunday there is plenty of cleaning to be done, so I cleaned the basement playroom, just in case it rains. He was right outside the door and started playing hide and seek with me. I love it that he is starting to understand the concept of the older games. And I love that he likes the old fashioned games and does not NEED the technology to make him happy. He played for just about an hour - even though he had the same hiding spot. But he waited until I counted to 10 each time before he started laughing.
The rest of the afternoon the boys played together with their trains, and then I had a meeting for work. The only way I was able to attend was to bring them with me. I did not know that it would be just about an hour long, but they held up very well, and it helps that almost all of my coworkers love them.
Then we FINALLY made it to play group at the park. And of course, both boys loved it. Carter really got a kick tonight out of the echo in a covered slide. He didn't want to go down the slide, he just wanted the echo. It was hilarious. And surprisingly, it only took a little bit of convincing, and carefully worded phrases, for an overtired two year old to get off the playground and come home. I am very proud of how Pierce behaved today with a broken nights sleep, and no nap. Maybe this means I have a full night of sleep ahead of me? Maybe? I am very cautiously optimistic. :)
Tomorrow we are back to the grind, and I will post all of our activities. Good night everyone!
