Good evening everyone! I cannot believe the weekend is halfway over...it just does not seem plausible. But alas, it is. While I have a moment of quiet, I figured I would hop on here and update the past few days.
Friday was a low key day. We were going to have a play date, but my mom friend decided she just had to have her new baby, so there was no play date. (Totally understandable, and congrats again!) Instead, I decided to start the morning off with a bit of school time and classical music. And that went over much better than I thought it would. I have found these amazing pre-k packets from Over The Big Moon, and this week we are working on the Thanksgiving packet. Pierce is in love with connecting the dots and making lines, and practicing how to hold a pencil. It is awesome. Carter is working on his fine motor skills and problem solving. Therefore, I made a sensory tray out of lentils, where he has to pick them up from one muffin cup and place them in another. He also had the stacking blocks, and was having a blast making towers, knocking them over, and proclaiming, "Uh oh, Spaghettios!"
Once the boys were done with school work, they raced cars around the house and used the lentils as road blocks. It was hilarious. Pierce placed them in straight lines, and they tried to figure out what cars would go through them (the ones with taller wheels), and which ones would be stopped by them (the matchbox cars). What was even better is that both kiddos helped clean up the lentils that were all over the kitchen and living room.
From there we visited Daddy at work and our cousin Lisa, and they had a blast. Pierce was trying to figure out how to use a hula hoop while Carter figured out how to work the laptop (sorry Lisa!). Then we came home and both boys were successfully transferred from sleeping in the car to sleeping in their beds. I then proceeded with mommy work out time, where I decided to tackle Pilates and a dancer workout. Yup, I am a bit sore from that. When they woke up, it was so beautiful with the sun shining and the temperatures were actually in the mid 50's. I placed them both in the double stroller, and we took off on a walk to the nearby dam. Carter was more than fascinated by the river, and even explored standing up and walking when we got to the bottom of the dam. Pierce tells me "Momma, it smells like something." I figured he was going to say fish, or something of that nature since we were right next to the river. His response to what it smells like? "Momma, it smells like an Otter. Where are the Otters?" Proof to me that he does listen to the books I read him at night. :)
We arrived home and painted on foil with tempera paints and soap flakes. The soap made it sudsy and smell good, and the paint was just fun. They loved it! Until Papa and Daddy came home at the same time, followed by Mimi, and I became chop liver. So we all went out to chop and stack wood. That was followed by a ham dinner, then bath time. Right after bath time, Carter decided to prove that he can do somersaults now, and did them all across his room. Yet another reason I am happy the crib is not in their room anymore.
Today I worked in the morning. However, Daddy did take them to visit Nana and to the playground. When they came home, Pierce helped me grate the cheese for homemade mac and cheese, and then we sat on the couch watching Mickey for a bit. I was hoping it would make him fall asleep, but there was no such luck. So we went out to play with our friends as the playground again. They ran ragged, and Pierce tried telling me he was ready for a nap at 4 pm. I told him he was nuts, and could wait for bedtime.
We did more school work and number recognition, then did bath time where he turned into a fish yet again. Carter was a bit cranky, but was made happier by a dose of Advil to numb the 4 teeth he has coming in at once. After bath, Carter laid on my bed playing with my phone (does he learn much from Pierce?!), and Pierce did his piggy bank time with Daddy. I found all the loose change in my room and gave it to him. The kid more than deserves it with the amount of help he gives everyone. Then we went downstairs where Pierce rode his bike, and Carter rode their excavator. Pierce used his amazing imagination to tell me he was going to the store to pick up chocolate milk, followed by him pretending to pick it up, and pretending to pay for it. We had a scenario where he was driving to the moon for work, and another where he went to the condo but was bored so he came home. It was great watching Carter join in on the action and pretend to be doing things as well. He was a little confused about the pretend orange juice, and examined Pierce's hand to see if it was going to materialize, but he caught on and had a blast.
Well, it is now time for my butt to hit the pillow...5 am comes pretty quickly. Boys - don't ever lose sight of who you are, and never let anyone else squash your dreams. Reach for the stars and go for it. If you want to be an astronaut, then you can do it. If you want to live on the ocean, you can do that too. I love you boys to the moon and back. Thank you for making me laugh and play tonight. - Momma
