So, per the request of one of my readers, I am going to attempt at making shorter entries, by blogging more often. As she puts it, I am a bit long winded and need to not wait so long to write. I apologize to anyone that is bored reading these...however, my intentions were to write down all of the little details so that my boys would know what they did when they grow up. So, back to the train ride.
The boys had an amazing time on the train ride. Unfortunately, our group did end up separated on the train, but my mom, hubby, boys, and I were able to site with my girlfriend, her daughter, son, and fiance. And since my girlfriend and I have been friends since middle school, it was awesome to have both of our families experience it at the same time. We did learn a few things on the train. To begin with, Carter is destined to be a subject of the paparazzi. Between his sense of humor, and the love of having his picture taken, he is all set for that. Pierce learned that he cannot fly, even if he thinks he obtained magical powers from Santa. Pierce promptly landed on his head as he flew across the aisle. On his own accord, and with no warning. That did not stop us from having a great time at Light up the Town.
It really is great to see a community pull together and host such a grand event such as Light up the Town. There were street entertainers, hot cocoa, Frosty, Rudolph, a bonfire, and so many more things to bring all of us together. That is what makes me proud of my town, and that is why I am willing to put in the effort to build a playground. Despite most of us freezing to the bone, we had so much fun checking everything out. And both of the boys were mesmerized.
Yesterday the boys and I made peppermint scented rice, as well as bathtub paint. Those were our two big activities for the day, specially since Dan took them for part of the morning while he did the errands. Yay for this momma catching a break. :) The rice ended up being almond scented in one batch, and lemon scented in another. And both of the boys had a blast shaking the bottles around to mix everything. If you would like the see the original link to where I found the idea, please go here:

So far today, Pierce has had a pretty bad day at school, and is now sleeping. I think he is just so overtired from his refusal to nap the last 4 days, that he doesn't know which way is up or down. And that is partially my fault, and I feel horrible. This is my favorite time of the year, and I try to do way too much, which means dragging these guys everywhere. Yes, we are having tons of fun, but I need to remember that despite their personalities, they are just 1 and 2. I know I forget this, since they act like little people and love to do activities that are meant for older children. I think it is time for ME to reevaluate situations, and really wonder if things are really worth it. Would I have changed any part of Saturday? Absolutely not. Would I have changed Friday? Maybe we should have stayed home for the day and just relaxed after such a big couple of days prior.
However, before I thoroughly give myself a beating, parenting is also making mistakes and learning from them. I have already canceled a couple of play dates this week that I really wanted to go to...such as meeting the Grinch. However, 20 years from now, are they going to remember meeting the Grinch? Do either of them even know who they are? No. They do not. I can survive not taking them, and letting them stay home doing something they want to do. I guess that has been my lesson for the last couple of days, and I know I have said it before. Slow down, take a few breaths, and savor the moments. Kids need down time. It is essential to proper brain development, and that is what is most important. And on that note, I am going to try to convince Carter that yes, he needs a nap today so his little body can grow. Because guess who I have taught that it is awesome to be on the go all the time? Yup, my littlest. Have a great day everyone!
