CT winters are NOT conducive to anybody's sanity.

Hello!  Yes, it has been 5 days since we updated.  However, every time I tried to update, it seemed like something else came up that took precedence.  This has been an extremely challenging week:  the temperatures have been at or below 20 degrees all week, with windchill factors dipping us into the negatives.    This has left us all cabin crazy, despite trying to go somewhere everyday just to get out of the house.

Monday was the easiest day of them all.  We played soccer with the girls next door, went to story time where we met Pancake the Pig, and then played with the girl cousins all afternoon.  :)  That was an awesome stress free day.

Tuesday was a not so great day.  It could have been a lot worse, but it certainly was a no good, terrible, rotten, day.  Tuesday morning started off great!  Pierce and I were working on his math book, and Carter was working on his fine motor skills of coloring.  We went upstairs to grab some cucumber salad, ate it, and then I helped Carter get out of his chair.  After that, I went back downstairs to load the wood stove, and could have sworn I shut the door.  I heard Carter hop onto his car and start riding around the house; then I heard the pause, and then I heard and watched him take his car down the steps all the way to the basement. I did not panic - I actually made sure that he was breathing and moving before I picked him up, just in case there was a back or neck injury.  Then I carried Carter upstairs and called Dan while trying to figure out just how bad the lacerations to his face were.  There was blood EVERYWHERE (on a side note, Borax is fantastic at getting blood out of clothes).  The next call was to the pediatrician, and the fantastic news was that he never lost consciousness and he was screaming the whole time.  Dan showed up just as I was getting the boys to the car, and we sped off to the doctor's office.  On the way there, Carter was asking for food, and Pierce was a rock star the entire time.  He was handing me washcloths, telling Carter that it is okay and that everything will be alright.  I was expecting stitches, but it turns out that when he went down the stairs, he sucked his lip in, and his top teeth went through the bottom.  Now due to the location and the width of the laceration, stitches were not possible.  Yay!  And therefore a trip to the ER was not necessary.

Dan ended up taking Pierce to story time, since it is his favorite story time, and he was such a great helper.  I will forever be thankful to Pierce for not throwing a fit or freaking out over the blood everywhere.  I laid low with Carter, who was obviously very uncomfortable yet was still smiling and loveable.  Later that evening Dan kicked me out of the house to go take the hip hop class at the YMCA I have been dying to take.  THANK YOU DAN.  It was the perfect medicine to get me to stop feeling like a horrible parent.

Wednesday was another odd day.  I did not have to work, so I was kind of thrown off.  I also did not go to the gym, since there was no way I was getting up 20 minutes earlier to warm up my car.  However, we actually enjoyed grocery shopping with our massive stacks of coupons.  And my little victory dance was that between 2 stores, we spent $200, but we saved just about $350.  And I think I figured out the key to making shopping enjoyable:  Pierce helps load, push, and unload the cart.  Carter is able to sit in the cart with a book or my phone.  Everyone is happy.  Yay!  Then that night, we took the boys swimming in the nice warm pool, since we were unable to go Tuesday night.

Thursday was a nice relaxing day.  We played with trains, watched Mickey, and Pierce took out his Tag reader and started reading to Carter.  We also went to our favorite winter hangout:  FUN FACTOR!  :)  Carter is so in love with the bouncy houses now, and is really getting into it.  He even tried the obstacle course!  I am so proud of him, since he is one to take on new things very slowly.  As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, he started laughing and trying to yell "Jump!"  It was also great to see him sharing and playing with other kiddos his age.

Today has been a challenging day thus far.  I figured a trip to the vet office would be fun; they could see other animals, meet a veterinarian, and watch Amber get her check up.  I figured since my children like to learn, they would be all for it.  WRONG!  Oh, it was great that everything was new.  That meant new things to jump on (such as the scale), new places to scream and hear an echo, and new people to demonstrate what it is like to be a 2 1/2 year old to.  However, the dog finally has her rabies shot, she is finally registered with the town, and all is well.  I did take them all through the car wash though - and the boys LOVED it like always.

Pierce has been going in and out of the house since we came home, and has announced he does not care if it is freezing, he is playing outside, since inside is boring.  I finally convinced them to eat lunch, and I have managed to have Carter take a nap.  Now it is time to convince Pierce he needs a nap, so we can build marshmallow sculptures when he wakes up.  Hope everyone has had a great week, and I really hope it warms up soon.  My children NEED to be children.  They need to be outside playing, getting dirty, and kicking balls around.  So please cold spell, leave us sooner than later.  Okay?
