Let's see - the last time I posted was on January 4, and today is January 8. Not too bad of a gap, right? Saturday was me working, and then just hanging out with the boys. Danny was under the weather, so I headed out to Rockwell Park anticipating the scream fest with Carter, since he does not like snow. Much to my surprise, after Carter realized there wasn't really a place to go, he stopped screaming, actually started laughing, and took off to play with Pierce. It was rather nice to play in the snow with BOTH of my boys.
Sunday morning was some more work for me, followed by me time at the gym. The deal was I could go to the gym, as long as the boys were napping. Pierce was almost asleep when I left, and Carter was just starting to go down. Once I arrived home about 90 minutes later, wasn't I surprised to see both of them awake! And the report that NEITHER of them napped. So, I convinced Carter to sleep, and took Pierce with me to Fun Factor so he could have some mommy time, and to make up for having to leave early the other day. I was also betting he would fall asleep in the car since he had no nap that day, but nope. He was awake. The whole time. And how did he stay awake? He told knock knock jokes the entire way there. :)
Monday was a visit to the dentist. I knew Carter would not tolerate it. He hates anybody brushing his teeth, never mind somebody poking around counting teeth and having to sit still. And this time I was right. As the receptionist called it, he was singing for everybody. And he did not receive a great report card either. His bite issues are being caused by the dreaded bottle, and he has the beginnings of a cavity on one of his front teeth from the milk sitting in there all night. Immediately, we took all bottles out of the house, and he has actually adjusted really well to not having one.
Pierce was the complete opposite. He volunteered to go first after Carter started screaming to show him how it worked. He also jumped into the chair, opened his mouth and said "Ah" without the hygienist even saying a word. This is also the child that wants to brush his teeth when he is bored and tries to buy new tooth brushes every time we shop. You gotta love it.
Once we arrived home, the plan was to clean my car. However, the weather was way too nice so I set up the tee ball stand for Pierce, and taught him how to hit a ball. He LOVED it. What he didn't love was the dog stealing the ball every time he hit it. But it is par for the course. Carter even tried to hit it, which was funny to see. He then decided that riding on the dump truck was way more important. I cannot really blame him. It is hard for the little body that isn't even REALLY used to walking/running to be playing baseball. He also despises snow, cold, and anything that goes along with it.
We also took advantage of the awesome weather by doing fife and drum outside and marching up and down the driveway. The little girls next door heard us, and came to join in our parade. All Pierce talked about all night was how he was able to march with the girls, and HE was the only drummer. It was so incredibly cute.
Today we started out the day by going on a hike at White Memorial. It was a bit tough - not going to lie. Carter was upset just by leaving the house and having to feel the cold on his face. I didn't have patience for it, so I wasn't exactly the most supportive mom in the world. I just plopped him in the car, and buckled him in. Pierce was all excited - until we arrived. Then he decided that he was too cold and didn't want to go. In the mean time, I had the dog running everywhere, one kid on my back, and the other in tears saying he was done. We had only been there for 2 minutes. Literally. So, I said forget everything, we are going home and going to bed. That didn't last too long - since that caused even more tears. So I bartered with my 2 1/2 year old. If he hiked for 15 minutes total, I would buy him a hot cocoa. His eyes instantly lit up, and we ended up staying out there for 50 minutes. It was me who said they had been out in the cold long enough. I mean it was only 9:15 when we arrived.
Pierce was so excited to follow deer tracks, find other doggy poop, and to find moss under the snow. Nature is the best classroom out there. And I REALLY hope Carter understands that sooner than later. I have no idea what I am going to do if he is a kid that detests being outside.
Now my cherubs are napping, and I need to finish some tasks. Well, never mind finishing anything. Carter is awake. Bye guys! Have a great day!
