Think we are in the clear...

Well, all of us have landed sick in the past week...hence the no updates.  I thought that I was going to escape the germs, but I fell victim to them on Friday.  Anyhow, this is what has happened the last week:

Both boys now have twin size beds as of January 30, 2013.  It was a bittersweet day for me:  I am now forced to face the fact that I have 2 big boys, and not just one.  However, it is much easier for bed time with them having the same type of bed, and Carter feels more of an equal.  The other advantage?  We can lay in bed with each of them, and they do not have to lay with us in ours.  Somehow, they still end up in our bed though.  :)

Carter's language is taking off.  He is desperately trying to make sentences, and is now stringing together 2-3 words.  He was speaking with Trisha the other night, and when asked what he was doing he replied "eating carrot."  Yay!  And it was also completely understandable...no translation necessary.  Carter has also hit the whiny stage.  I remember this all too well with Pierce...and just like I detested this phase with Pierce, I cannot stand it with Carter.  I sound like the super strict mom, but I am being strict in an effort to stop it; just like I did with Pierce.

Carter is also really getting into sports.  He is loving soccer, and the two days of 50 degree weather we had, he spent every minute of outside time playing soccer and golf.  Carter has also realized that puddle stomping IS FUN and there is a reason why Pierce and mommy do it.  Yay!  However, as soon as it became cold again, he developed a hatred for the outside.  Honestly, you would think it was this child that was born in the Midwest.

Pierce has developed quite the personality.  He is stubborn yet sweet all at the same time.  He is trying to teach Carter everything, and I think he is learning that from us.  He will literally take Carter's hand while drawing and say, "Here Carter, this is how you do a circle."  Then he does a circle with Carter.  He is also the first to help me with cleaning now, and will ask what he can do to contribute.  Yes, he says contribute.  He totally wants to be an equal and help out, and I hope he remembers that for the teenage years.  His new thing is that he cannot wait to be a grown up so he can become an astronaut, and take pictures of the moon for daddy.  I think that is the sweetest thing ever.

While he has this sweet side, he is certainly exhibiting more and more of his independence and stubbornness   He wants to dress himself, go potty all on his own, and not have help.  And if he cannot do what pleases him at that moment, he WILL let you know he is disappointed.  He is also big on privacy now.  He needs privacy in the bathroom, he needs privacy in the shower (Oh yeah, and baths are for little kids.)  While I know this is a healthy and normal phase, I honestly want to rip my hair out sometimes.  And so does his Daddy.  :)

Pierce has also decided that he likes the cold weather, warm weather, it doesn't matter.  Nothing is stopping this child from going outside, and he lets himself out too.  He also picked up a hockey stick for the first time on January 30, 2012 and started hitting a tennis ball around like a pro.  Then February 3, 2013, he went on the ice with his sneakers and a hockey stick to play with his cousins - and he LOVED it.  He loved watching them, loved learning, and is now begging me for skates.  I am going to surprise him this week and take him to Play it Again Sports in Southington, so he can purchase his first pair.  :)  He is going to be so excited!

I have also let Pierce start choosing what he is going to do for quiet time.  I don't like fighting with him everyday for a nap.  As much as I hate to admit it, I do not think he needs a nap everyday.  There are certain things he cannot do without taking a nap first (swimming, going to his cousins, or jump zone), but if it is a regular run of the mill day, he is okay without one.  However, I still need to get things accomplished before I go to work, so here are his choices.  He can watch a movie (like right now he is watching Dumbo), color, use his Tag reader, or do quiet play with puzzles.  I am okay with him having some independent time, and this is always subject to change.  Plus, I still need him to keep the noise level down so Carter sleeps.

Well, those are the significant changes for this week.  And with me going away this upcoming Friday through Sunday for a parade in Saranac Lake, it is bound to be a busy week.  I will hopefully update soon!  Have a great day everyone; to my boys keep smiling and loving life.  You are both amazing little people.

Not sure of this...
Outside play time! It is 55 degrees on January 30, 2013!

What a pro!

This picture not only shows a beautiful dog, but just how foggy it was.

Yes, stopping the ball at the age of 17 months.
