I had this random idea at the beginning of the week to borrow the pass from the library for Beardsley Zoo. It had nothing to do with the lesson plans for the week (my goal was to teach about shapes), but it is something semi different and FUN. I realized after I borrowed the pass that it let in 2 adults and 4 kids. I made a few phone calls, and off to the zoo my friend and I headed with our 4 animals...I mean children. :)
We all had such a blast. Did you know that the Beardsley Zoo now has two tortoises that are 90 years old and 550 pounds, and 70 years old and 320 pounds? They are such aIng creatures! I think I enjoyed them more than the kids did...just watching them mov slow and steady and eat was making me awestruck.
Based on VERY popular demand, we had to go see "the big bad wolf" next. Or at least in Pierce's world, they are the big bad wolves. The kids loved the observatory room. Carter had his finger pointing at everything while he did his long exaggerated "Ooohhh". It was just so cute! Pierce was. Wing ainsley and climbing on everything so he could get a better view. But would we really expect anything different out of a very enthusiastic and curious two year old? Nope. Not at all. And I love it.
For the first time ever, both Carter and Pierce went climbing through the hollow tree. And Carter was having a blast until some big lid just stomped on h. Then he wasn't having fun anymore. But I ended up in the tree as well, and it was really really cool! Why have I not climbed in there before?
I also discovered that according to a 5 year old, prairie dogs are just really big rats. And I learned from my two year old they are stinky, and I learned from carter that they say."awww. "it is amazing what you learn from children.
The rest of the zoo was awesome. The three eldest touched a snake. A boa constrictor to be exactly. I stayed back and took pictures like a chicken. And that was ok by me. :)
We were there for just about 4 hours before the boys started melting down from being hot and tired. They were both asleep before I even got out of the parking lot, which means I was able to enjoy the ride home in quiet. That happens so seldomly it was peaceful.
I tried to take it easy with them once we for home, since we had such a busy day. But they were having nothing of it. Both kids ended up chasing me up the front hill. An thenPierce and I rolled down the hill together. And we did that over and over and over. Every time he reached the bottom, he would stand up and say, "momma I'm dizzy" and fall in one direction or another just laughing and laughing. Then we did five and drum practice. And before my cute bots jne it. It was bath time, book reading time, and bed time.
However while reading brown beat born bear, pierce told me to "stop talking momma so I can read the book. Okay?". The boy knows how to make me speechless and laugh all the same time.
Well I'm off to bed. I have to work in the morning. I will talk to everyone tomorrow!
