Good afternoon! It is already 1 pm, and I have no clue where the last 24 hours went. It seemed like I blinked, and it was gone. Just like I blink, and my kids are growing up so fast. I did not update yesterday, since by the time I was able to get my children to go to bed, Dan was on the computer. And he seems to think this whole blog is ridiculous, since "nobody really honestly can care about what you do with your day." Ouch. That stung a little. I gently reminded him that this blog will be printed off one day and put in a binder for his boys to read when they are older. It is turning into a very honest, and raw, scrapbook. :) I like it!
Anyhow, yesterday was a fun day. I attempted to teach the boys about circles, and we went on a little treasure hunt to find them everywhere. The really funny part was me attempting to teach Pierce how to trace a circle. Now he is a tracing menace, wanting to trace everything. Including demanding that I lay on the deck this morning, so he can trace my outline. I will admit, it is extremely cute! After our little art lesson, we did Pierce and Carter's beloved story time at the Thomaston Library. Every week Carter gets more and more into it, and for the first time ever, Pierce participated with singing every song and reading the book, with no prompting from me. I am so extremely proud of him, and the strides he has made. To think that 6 months ago this was the child that would not leave my side, and would not speak is amazing. It has certainly been a challenging time, but the rewards are beyond comprehension. I love the fact that he wants to be independent now, but at the same time it is sad and scary to see him stretch his wings and fly.
After the boys enjoyed their afternoon naps, I honestly had no energy to do anything. Dan was home sick yesterday, and honestly it throws my whole game off with the kids when they are home. I don't understand why, but it just makes my day hectic. However, yesterday afternoon was "clean up the yard time," since both boys managed to spread their toys everywhere. And I handed Pierce a sponge and he helped wash off all of his toys too. I think the crisp air is making me want to start getting ready for fall...meaning since I cleaned out the basement this year, the toys are going to go down there for play time.
I ended up taking what was supposed to be just a half hour nap, but awoke to Dan having dinner cooked and ready to eat. That was a treat! Although he cooked steak, because he could not stand another meatless night. lol. Note to self: cook vegetarian, Dan will eventually take over cooking. Got it.
I promised Pierce he could ride his tricycle to the last summer concert in the center of town last night. Cross Eyed Cats was playing, and their music was interesting. To be fair, I was too busy socializing to really pay attention. Based upon the thick crowd, I am going to guess they were good. I parked at the bank so Pierce could REALLY ride his tricycle and make a grand entrance. Plus, I wanted to show Dan just how well he was going. Wouldn't you know that little booger purposely would stop at the top of every hill, shove off again and pedal, so he could go faster? And yes, he had his helmet on. And it will always be on from this point forward, now that he REALLY wants to go fast. Pierce spent his concert dancing with some girls, playing with his friends, and of course dancing with mommy and daddy. Then I started rolling down the hill with him, and boy did he get a kick out of that. And I did too. I feel as if I am becoming a kid again with the boys. Is that a normal parent thing? I have no idea.
Carter was able to socialize and crawl everywhere at the concert. Although he did take another couple of steps, and was walking while only holding on with one hand. I think he is going to start running soon. I hope so..I mean I adore him being little, and I know it is going to go by too fast, but I cannot wait for both boys to be riding bikes and playing soccer/hockey/baseball, whatever it may be. Carter also got a kick out of me hitting around a softball earlier in the day, and really loved watching the dog chase it. It would be awesome if Carter was my softball buddy. Then I wouldn't have to rely on the dog. :)
This morning was disorganized at best. However, it was a good lesson for all of us to just go with it. The boys wanted nothing to do with their morning art time, they just wanted to relax and watch Mickey. And I was more than happy to oblige. However, Pierce did mention he wanted to dress up and pretend. So, we went on an adventure, and both boys had a blast. I took them to Red White and Blue. It is this MASSIVE thrift store in Waterbury, where if you take the time to dig, you can find some really nice cheap stuff. I was thinking like a little suit for him to wear and some big dress shoes to walk around in. Apparently he and Carter had other ideas: they wanted to pretend to be pirates and sports stars. I found a little pirate scarf for $0.50 and Carter was just going through the store saying hi to everyone and playing peek a boo with the scarf and any stranger that would play attention. Pierce found the sports bin...which contained hockey sticks. So he explained he needed the sticks to be like the girls (meaning his cousins). So after he found this sticks, I found a few soccer jerseys...but he wanted a hockey jersey. I ended up finding a Team USA Jersey in the men's department, along with some kid size chin protectors for both soccer and hockey (not the same pair - 2 separate pairs). Not losing my dream of this beautiful blond hair toddler walking through the house with a big old tie and dress shoes, I held up a tie. Pierce's response? "No Momma, that is for boring people." I have no idea where he got that from, but there went that dream. Although I did find a kid sized clip on tie I purchased for Carter. I think I am going to have him try it on when he wakes up from his nap. :)
Alright, I am off to enjoy the rest of my quiet time - meaning my chance to do a little cleaning and maybe read a book or something? Hunt for some better part time jobs? I don't know. We shall see where the day takes me...after all life is an adventure!
