Today we spent the day as a family set out to have the most fun we could have. One of my fellow mom friends, dreamed up this idea of a Family Fun Day at the Terryville Fairgrounds, and it was an amazing way to spend 3 hours together. First off, everything was free. Second off, both boys were given the opportunity to play in firetrucks, a police cruiser, dump truck, excavator, and an ambulance. To say that they loved it, would be an understatement. We had to peel both of them out of every vehicle, to try to get them to move on. Then we were able to partake on horse back rides (yes, it was even TinkerBell from Lazy D Ranch and Pepsi too!), received a free family photo, and just explored. Pierce man created bottle rockets out of alka seltzer (will have to do that at home pretty soon - he loved it), and both boys were able to play in their beloved bubbles. The saw different characters, and received tickets for free kids meals to Rainforest Cafe (who wants to come with us?). Then they went inside one of the buildings to do the bean bag toss, and play lots of musical instruments. We also ran into Pierce's teacher, and he asked when he could come back to school. After his meltdown on Tuesday, I am taking that as a good sign. And lastly, we did the Born Learning Trail, which just discussed how to use nature to learn, and how to get your child involved in everything. I now have a few more ideas to play with, and I will update those as we go on through the year.
Now prior to all of this fun stuff, I swear my children have forgotten what it means to sleep at night. Pierce woke up at 5:30, and Carter woke up at 6. However, Daddy was able to convince Carter he needed more sleep, which left Pierce and I with some quality time. Now how else do you spend quality time at 7 am, other than frosting cupcakes with cotton candy frosting. Yup, and he used a pastry bag, and they came out pretty darn awesome. Once I am able to upload pictures with my camera, I will post them here.
After decorating cupcakes, Pierce and I took Amber for a run. He wanted to go again, and I do not want to squash the innate urgency he has to work out. I let Pierce pick where we were going to go running, and he chose Rock Well. Is anybody surprised by this? Nope. And of course we did the paracourse. Then from there we went home to gather Daddy and Carter to travel onto family fun day. On the way home, Pierce did make me cry tears of joy. I had a nice little sneezing attack (yay for New England weather), and Pierce said, "bless you mommy." My response? "Thank you Pierce. And did you know I am so proud of the person you have become?" This is where he got me, "Yes Momma And I am proud of you too." Wow, hearing my 2 year old say he is proud of me, I must be doing something right.
Both boys crashed on the way home from Family Fun Day, which left mommy and daddy with the super fun task of cleaning in preparation for tomorrow. There were a few toys that Dan received from work, so we bleached those, and started clearing everything from eye sight. There are no guarantees that things are not just piled under our bed and such. :) Once the boys woke up, we recruited mostly Pierce's help to find all of the dog poop in the yard and clean it up. He is such a little boy. We grabbed his tractor for him, and he drove around with the bag in his wagon for us to fill. It was so cute. In the meantime, Carter decided that Jenga the cat was his new target, and was "petting" her and getting upset because she kept raising her paw at his pettings. Never once did she scratch him, which I find amazing.
Then from there, Daddy stayed home and I took both boys to the Rockwell playground for a dinner picnic and playtime. Carter can now climb all the way to the top slide - including maneuvering the huge gaps in the staircase on his own. Both boys decided to race each other up the rock wall, and then both boys just frolicked. I only intended on us being gone for an hour, but once we saw the moon come up, we decided it was time to go home. Carter left with a smile from ear to ear, since he is FINALLY able to catch up with some of the big kids and have a blast doing what they do.
Upon arriving home, it was dinner time with Papa, then bath, and then bed. Pierce decided he wanted to take a SHOWER all on his OWN. I of course stood right there ready to catch if he slipped and fell, but he did fine. And he got his hair wet. Carter was able to take a bath on his own, and did not flip out too hard over me laying him in the water to get his head wet. That is a first.
It is not almost 10 pm, and I am getting ready to hit the hay. Both boys have been asleep for almost a 1/2 hour. That leaves me with some much needed sleep, since we have a nice big day tomorrow. I cannot believe my baby is 13 months old as of tomorrow. Where has the time gone? But, it is amazing the person he has grown into. He is the biggest goof ball, that is also so caring and sweet.
Good night!
