Both kiddos started the day snuggled in our bed. There is nothing like waking up to two little bodies snugged in so close and encased in absolute peace. The even better part? Waking up before them, and being able to savor the moment.
This morning we worked on color sorting, where Pierce had to color food red, yellow, or green, and then cut and paste them into the appropriate shopping carts. He did a fantastic job. And he even picked up on the little details such as the top of the strawberries were green - the entire strawberry is not red, so where should it go? Then I asked him what color the apple should be. His response was that it would be green if it were tart, and red if it were sweet. I need to remember more often that he is very detailed oriented, and good luck to his teachers. Or maybe perhaps I have taught him too much? I just do not know.
Carter worked on coloring while we did that, which very quickly became eat the crayons, which then turned into get down and play. He preferred the independent playing much more. :) Then he helped Pierce glue pom poms onto his ice cream cone picture. It was nice to see teamwork with the two of them.
After doing art at home, we went to the Litchfield library to take part in the Short Tales library program. Today's story was about a dog, who ended up covered in many different colored spots, since he was very susceptible to getting dirty. Carter absolutely loved the story, and was laughing and rolling all over the place. Pierce amazingly sat still and waited his turn to place his color on the story board. Mrs. Shaia had an art project set up to make a spotted dog, just like the book. This time there was not enough for Carter to do his own, since there were a lot of other kiddos there today. But as usual, Pierce surprised me. He gave one of the stampers to Carter and said, "here you go Carter. Try mine." I am so proud of him and the things he comes up with.
My plan when we came home was for both boys to nap, so I could lesson plan for the rest of the week. I feel like a floundering fish without the lesson plans. However, the boys had no intentions of sleeping. At all. Outside we went to blow some bubbles, and for Carter to start making his thank you cards from his party. All of us ended up covered in green paint, and bubble solution, but it was so much fun. I taught Pierce how to dive across the yard today after bubbles, and he loved it. What the kids did not love, was having to come in for lunch. Oh what an evil mom I am for making them eat.
I finally convinced Carter he needed a nap, which left time for Pierce and I to play. He learned how to do leaf rubbings today, and had me get into the passenger seat of my car, so he could drive me to the condo, and then go pick up Toota. Oh what an imagination that kid has. I really hope he never, ever, loses it. Then once Carter woke up, Pierce went down. Of course they did not want to sleep at the same time. If they had, neither one of them would have had one on one time. In retrospect - I love that one on one time. During our time, Carter showed me he knew where his eye was, and he rode the rocking horse all by himself. He also just sat on the floor of the kitchen trying to twist the top to the empty bubbles container on and off, and did not stop trying until he mastered it. It took him 40 minutes, but he did it. And I am so proud of him.
This evening we went to Veteran's Park where we met up with our mommy group. After walking we always go to the playground, and Pierce and Carter always try to climb the same two objects; Carter wants to climb the curved ladder, and Pierce wants to climb this massive rock wall. Well, I guess tonight was the night for both of them. And both of them had smiles to prove their self pride. When we got home, Pierce was very excited to show and tell everything he did today, and the pride that emanates from him is very contagious. And it truly makes me happy that he takes that pride in his work already, at the age of two. It is awesome.
Carter is now in bed for the night (his nap was short and sweet, and he needed bedtime), and Pierce is playing with the mouse on the computer as I finish typing this. I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow, but I need to get little man in bed. Good night!
