Why does life like to run so fast?

I would really like an answer to that question.  Why does life like to run so fast, while all of us seem to never be able to catch up?  Does that also explain why I have not been around?  This does lead to a problem now - I am asking myself, what did I do on Thursday with the kids?  There has to be something.  Oh yes, I worked.  Here is how the day went.

Thursday morning I volunteered to work to help my boss out, since I truly do like my boss - just not the chain I work for.  Pierce and Carter both heard me get up in the morning, despite me tip-toeing, and gave me a world of trouble for working and breaking routine.  In fact, Pierce's response?  "No Momma, it is not Sunday."  Well, the boys were in for a treat, since Lisa came to watch them.  Pierce reacted by not really using the potty, but pooping on the floor.  Other than that, and head butting Carter (our new trick), they did fine and LOVED having their cousin here.  When I got home, all of us ventured out to Gymboree, since Pierce has had no problems telling me that he likes their underwear much better, and that it is much softer.  He is my sensory child, and is very particular about even the seam on his socks, so I will go with it.  My logic was, that the kids will fall asleep on the way there, and will fall asleep on the way back.  But my logic FAILED.  They slept on the way there, but not on the way back.  This made for a very interesting afternoon, and it left Momma craving time to herself.  I did have them in bed by 7:30, since nothing I did was appreciated, simply due to them being so tired.

Friday morning, I packed up the boys, and we were on the road by 8:30.  Where to?  Well, Pierce had school, and I took advantage to money being in my bank account for once, and took Carter grocery shopping.  Normally I have both boys, so only having one kiddo was a treat and a half.  And Pierce is the one who likes to add a ton to the cart when I am not looking, so that saved quite a bit on the bill.  What got me, however, was Carter's grab out of the produce area.  Radishes.  An entire bunch of radishes, that he then proceeded to chew on throughout the store.  This left many old ladies (no offense) questioning my parenting, and taking second glances.  I just chuckled.  He likes them, they are healthy, and they made his teeth feel better.  Carter and I came home, unloaded the car, ate a quick snack, and went to grab Mr. Pierce from school.  And I was so proud of him - he was dry the ENTIRE day at school.  And he even told his teacher when he had to go.  Now, here is the laugh factor.  I was informed that at one point, when they were outside, that she looked over and saw a very white tiny heiny watering the trees.  Oops!  Note to self, need to stop letting him do that at home.  lol.

After naps, we went outside and made a leaf pile to play in.  Carter hated it, Pierce loved it.  The neighbor did too, and it turns out he is a photographer, and offered to come over and grab a couple of pictures of the boys.  I was not going to object.  Have at it!  Then we had a quick dinner when Daddy came home, and we had to run to the haunted house at Imagine Nation Museum.  The entire first floor was set up for kids Pierce and Carter's age, and they had a TON of arts and crafts, plus a DJ.  Pierce wanted to dress up as a shark, and Carter had a trial run in his sea turtle costume.  At first Carter HATED his costume.  I normally do not use that word, but the fit he pitched almost made me second guess getting him dressed in it.  As the night went on, he LOVED the costume - and actually wanted to wear it again today.  :)  It was bed time after that excursion, but they had a blast there.  And I absolutely love that place, as do the kids.  Come the beginning of the year, I will be purchasing a membership to the museum for the kids.

I knew the weather for today was going to turn sour fast, so I pre-made breakfast last night (a French Toast bake, and it was fantastic) to cook up as soon as we woke up.  Then I decided to give Dan some space, so I took the boys for a hike up through the Appalachian Trail in Kent, CT.  It was breath taking, and we had a blast.  Pierce was pointing out every different colored tree on the way there, and just had so much fun hiking along the water and playing in leaves.  We did a total of a 90 minute hike - which is a lot for Pierce's little legs.  Of course, Carter caught a ride in the backpack.  Pierce found a waterfall on our hike, a musket (just a stick), and had to pet every dog that went past us.  The coolest part, was when he found a natural see saw in the woods, and started playing with Carter on it.  The heart melting point?  Pierce said he needed up, and I assumed in my mind, that I was going to have to carry him the rest of the way.  I picked him up, and he tells me to stop moving.  After questioning why, he plants the biggest kiss ever on my cheek, and tells me I needed that.  I love him.  I honestly could not even fathom what my life would be like without both of those boys right now.  Either it is a good thing or a bad thing, but they are my rocks of solidarity, and keep me grounded.  They keep me in check, make me laugh, and show me all of the little things in life, that I would be so quick to just walk on past without even blinking.

Once we came home, they helped Daddy clean his car (it took a whole hour), and then just played around the house.  I made them some bath paint - very easy to do.  Equal parts soap and cornstarch, with food coloring.  It did not dye the tub (only the grout.  Oops!), and they had so much fun painting.  Plus, they came out clean in the end.  And it entertained them for an hour.  Score!  From there we had dinner, and they are now watching Baby Einstein with Dan.

Here is where I need to pick some brains.  Pierce has had no accidents since Thursday.  He even told me today on the trail when he needed to pee and poop so that we could stop.  After they were done with the soaps, I gave Carter a bottle, and told Pierce he was not allowed to play trains in the living room since I needed to get Carter to sleep.  Not even 10 minutes later, he comes out to the living room, to tell me he pooped in his pants.  Not only did he do that, but he smeared it around the floor of his room.  Is this an adverse reaction to me feeding Carter and not spending direct time with him?  Oh man, that got me fuming for a bit.  And of course I had to clean it, and now laundry is also thrown in the washer.

I'm a shark.

A not so happy Sea Turtle.

Driving to the trail head.

So soft.

Look Momma!

Housatonic River.

Love this, not sure why.

ha ha ha.

Typical Carter.

Ready, Aim, Fire!
Tomorrow morning I have to work, and from there the weather will decide what we do.  Right now I need to sleep.  Badly.  I am so stinking tired, I think I could actually fall asleep typing this.  Have a great rest of your weekend everyone.  And stop to smell the roses - maybe if we all did, life wouldn't run so fast.
